On November 10th in Tokyo, Mr. Ohmiya of Apple Japan unveiled the newest Newton family, e-Mate300 at the Newton Japan user group meeting. This maybe was the very first demonstration given for end users anywhere in the world. Here's the news bulletin from Japan!
As Apple announced, the new Newton device has been exclusively designed for the educational market. This reflects the influential power of the educational division at Apple US. Its durable, rounded chassis and longer battery life are designed considered of kids' use particularly.
A source says that the develpment of its conceptual design project first started at Apple's PowerBook team, but the team had a different opinion on its pricing strategy which planned to be below $1,000. Then the Newton team took over the project. The prototype unvailed seemed to be telling us that the "switchover" was very successful.
